Fishing For Kings & Grouper on The Crystal Coast

Captain Chris Kimrey - Friday, October 06, 2017

We've already had several charters in the month of October and we're excited for all of the fall fishing to come this season! Here on the Crystal Coast, two of our favorite fish to catch in the fall are king mackerel and grouper.

You may love the taste of grouper - we sure do - and what could be better than catching your own dinner? As the weather gets cooler, grouper move farther inshore for warmer water. This mean you don't have to travel as far offshore to catch them! When the grouper are inshore, you'll likely find them near some sort of structure. Whether it's near a shallow reef, along shipping channel edges, bridges or docks, grouper usually find some type of structure to lurk around. Not only do grouper get big but they're pretty strong too, making for a fun fight when you've got one on the hook!

Although you don't hear of kingfish being as popular to eat as grouper, they're still tasty. King fishing kicks off around mid-October here along Atlantic Beach and we are ready! We've been booking king fishing charters for months and we can't wait. Mid-October in eastern North Carolina is some of the most beautiful weather we get all year long. Temperatures are warm with a cool breeze usually around the high 60s to mid 70s and sunny. This is perfect weather for getting out on the water for a day of king fishing. This time of year, we don't have to venture too far off the beach to catch kings!

If you're wanting to catch some old drum, give us a call as soon as possible to book your charter. There are still some left in the Neuse River but the bite is slowing down and they'll soon be gone.
